South Review
The South had a strong showing with many players raising their draft stock, while others helped themselves to get noticed.
(QB) Derek Carr- Fresno St. Did not disappoint showed why he had the season he did a year ago in where he threw for 5,083 yards with 50 TD and only 8 interceptions. Derek displayed his strong arm, showed poise in the pocket and was making quick & decisive decisions. threw for a TD and no interceptions. He has good size at 6'2 215 lbs.
(QB) David Fales-San Jose State; Standing at 6'1 220 lbs decent size had decent showing at senior bowl showed his mobility and ability to throw on the run accurately. What can hurt him is the level of competition he went up against, but today he proved he can at least compete with top division one talent, would not be a bad quarterback to take a look @ in day three of the draft between rounds 4-7.
(QB) Jimmy Garoppolo- Eastern Illinois; Standing 6'2 219 lbs showed promise throughout the week of practice leading up to the senior bowl, something along the way to the game must of changed do not want to call the young man a practice warrior, but today did not show up. Jimmy was shaky and at times indecisive with the ball, when faced with pressure became erratic and had happy feet.
(RB) Lorenzo Taliaferro- Coastal Carolina; This was a nice surprise at the senior bowl, this is an example of a player from a small school using the senior bowl to help him get noticed and bolster his draft stock. Very quick, elusive, and runs with power. Has good size for a running back at 6' 210 lbs.
(WR) Mike Davis- Texas; Had a solid showing at the senior bowl proved to scouts and everyone watching he has good hands and good speed for the next level. Needs to work on route running and on separation. I can see him being a good 3rd rounder for a team, but don't be surprised if someone over drafts and takes him in the 2nd round.
(WR) Kevin Norwood- Alabama; The stage was not too big for this wide receiver, he had a great game overall, showed his ability to run down field, showed he has reliable hands in reeling in two TD's and showed he can use his height at 6'2 197 lbs, this player seems primed to succeed at the next level has all the physical tools.
(DE) Dee Ford- Auburn; This player was all over the field causing havoc to who ever was at quarterback. Had two sacks, was pressuring QB all day and at times being doubled an tripled team. Dee Ford proved to NFL scouts hes ready for the next level, by showing off his quickness mixed with strength proved to be too much for the north tackles. Dee Ford stands at 6'2 243 lbs.
(DT) Caraun Reid- Princeton; The Ivy league product shows he belongs standing at 6'2 301 lbs. He showed off quickness, tackling and the ability to penetrate as he got a sack. This platform that is the senior bowl is tailor made for a guy like this to get noticed.
(LB) Telvin Smith- FSU; Has size almost built for a safety standing at 6'2 218 lbs but does use his athleticism to his advantage which makes it easier for him to get to the ball. Proved to scouts that he can make the tackles and showed of his quickness.
(OLB) Christian Jones- FSU; Very raw talent, has not reached full potential moved well, made a few plays and tackles standing at 6'3 234 lbs showed he can run sideline to sideline.
(OLB) Kyle Van Noy- BYU; Standing at 6'3 244 lbs fits the mold for a linebacker, but not only does he have the size he proved he can tackle well, he's quick, is constantly around the ball and recorded a sack in the senior bowl.
(CB) Walt Aikens- Liberty; Proves why its important to give small school players a chance and or opportunity to unleash their skills. Walt backed up his reputation for being a big, physical cornerback as he displayed his skills in the senior bowl making a few plays when he had the opportunity, he stands at 6' 205 lbs.
(CB) Chris Davis- Auburn; Comes from the best conference in college football the SEC where he was tested on a weekly basis, he did not disappoint intercepting one pass at the senior bowl, showed he can cover man to man, as you watch him you see he has quick feet & hips. has average height for a cornerback at 5'9 but is built solid weighing at 201 lbs.
(SS) Craig Loston- LSU; took advantage of the senior bowl showing off his over the top coverage plus adding an interception to go along with a solid day. Craig also comes from the SEC conference where he faced top notch competition and LSU had one of the top defenses in college football.
